Sitting is the new smoking: the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle| Красота
![]() Sitting is the new smoking: the dangers of a sedentary lifestyle In today's world, more and more people are leading a sedentary lifestyle - at work, at home and during leisure time. This has become the norm in the age of digital technologies, when a significant part of daily tasks is performed at a computer or smartphone. However, this lifestyle has serious health consequences, and doctors are increasingly sounding the alarm. Prolonged sitting is associated with an increased risk of developing numerous chronic diseases. According to the World Health Organization, physical inactivity is the fourth most significant risk factor for mortality in the world. People who spend more than 6 hours a day sitting have a significantly higher probability of developing cardiovascular disease, type 2 diabetes, obesity, and some types of cancer. In addition, physical inactivity also affects mental health. Studies show that people who move little are more likely to suffer from depression and anxiety disorders. Physical activity promotes the production of endorphins, the happy hormones that improve mood and reduce stress levels. Sitting for long periods of time also negatively affects posture and the musculoskeletal system. People who often sit in the wrong position face chronic pain in the back, neck and shoulders. Reduced muscle tone and impaired blood circulation can lead to serious complications, including thrombosis and varicose veins. Experts recommend interrupting sitting at least every 30–60 minutes by doing a short warm-up or walk. Ideally, include at least 150 minutes of moderate physical activity per week in your daily schedule, as recommended by the WHO. Simply taking the stairs instead of the elevator, walking while talking on the phone, or using a standing desk can significantly improve your health. Rethinking your own lifestyle is the first step to preventing serious diseases. A sedentary lifestyle may seem convenient, but it hides many dangers. Incorporating movement into your daily routine will help you stay active, energetic, and healthy for years to come. Ключевые слова:
