Vegetables are a shield for your health: what happens if you don’t eat them

Vegetables are an extremely important part of a healthy diet, as they contain a wide range of nutrients - vitamins, minerals, fiber and antioxidants. However, many people neglect their regular consumption, choosing high-calorie or processed foods instead. This can have serious health consequences.

Refusing to eat vegetables leads to a deficiency of fiber, which is responsible for normal digestion and maintaining intestinal microflora. As a result, constipation, bloating, and an increased risk of developing hemorrhoids and diverticulosis can occur. Fiber also reduces the level of “bad” cholesterol (LDL), which has a positive effect on the state of the cardiovascular system.

In addition, a lack of vegetables in the diet means a lack of vitamins A, C, K, as well as folic acid. For example, vitamin A is necessary for eye and skin health, and vitamin C is for immunity and iron absorption. Folic acid is especially important for pregnant women, as it promotes the proper development of the neural tube of the fetus.

Vegetables are also a source of powerful antioxidants that help fight cell aging and prevent the development of chronic diseases, including cancer. The lack of such substances in the diet is associated with an increased risk of developing colon cancer, breast cancer and other types of cancer.

Another aspect is weight control. Vegetables are low in calories, but at the same time provide a long-lasting feeling of satiety. Refusing to eat them often leads to overeating high-calorie foods, which contributes to weight gain and obesity. This, in turn, increases the risk of type 2 diabetes, hypertension and heart disease.

To maintain the body in good condition, it is worth consuming at least 400 grams of vegetables every day. This can be salad, baked vegetables, soup or smoothies. Variety is the key to a complete diet: green leafy, red, orange and cruciferous vegetables provide a comprehensive effect on the body. Don't ignore vegetables — let them become regular guests on your plate.
