Men and obesity: why the stronger sex is more vulnerable than it seems

In the modern world, the problem of obesity is gaining momentum and is becoming an increasingly serious threat to the health of millions of people. At the same time, statistics show that men are more prone to obesity than women. According to the World Health Organization, the level of obesity among men in many countries consistently exceeds that of women. This fact is worrying and requires a deeper analysis of the reasons for this imbalance.

One of the main reasons is hormonal differences between men and women. The female body produces more estrogen, which contributes to the accumulation of subcutaneous fat, mainly in the hips and buttocks, while in men fat is more often deposited in the abdominal cavity. This type of obesity, called abdominal, is much more dangerous, as it is associated with an increased risk of cardiovascular diseases, type 2 diabetes and other chronic diseases.

In addition to physiology, behavioral and social factors play a significant role. Men, as a rule, pay less attention to healthy eating, more often consume high-calorie foods, fast food and alcohol. They are also less likely to follow diets and change their lifestyle to lose weight. Many of them do not even recognize the presence of a problem, which further complicates the fight against obesity.

Physical activity is another important aspect. Although stereotypes indicate that men are more active, in practice it turns out that after a certain age their activity level decreases significantly, especially if they have a sedentary job and do not regularly exercise. Combined with an excess of calories, this quickly leads to an increase in body weight.

Psychological factors cannot be ignored either. Men are more likely to suppress their emotions, do not seek psychological help, and "eat" stress with food. Women are more likely to exhibit eating behaviors caused by emotional states, but they are also more active in seeking solutions to the problem, turning to nutritionists, psychologists, and fitness trainers.

To effectively combat obesity among men, a comprehensive approach is needed: medical education, changing eating habits, maintaining physical activity, and motivating men to adopt a healthy lifestyle. It is also necessary to overcome stereotypes that prevent men from openly talking about health problems and seeking help. This is the only way to stop the rapid increase in obesity among men and improve their quality of life.
