How to Improve Indoor Air Quality: Simple Steps for Health

Indoor air quality has a significant impact on our health and well-being. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), polluted indoor air can cause a variety of diseases, from allergies to respiratory and cardiovascular problems. It is important not only to take care of cleanliness in the home, but also to ensure that the air quality is adequate. In this article, we will look at some simple but effective methods to improve the air quality in your home or office.

  1. Use air purifiers

Air purifiers are one of the most effective ways to get rid of pollutants such as dust, pollen, smoke or harmful chemical compounds. Modern models of purifiers can filter particles as small as 0.3 microns, which provides a high level of purification. To achieve the best results, it is important to choose the right purifier for the size of the room and the type of filter, in particular, HEPA filters cope well with small particles and allergens.

  1. Ventilate the room regularly

One of the simplest, but at the same time very important methods for improving air quality is regular ventilation. It is important not to just open the windows for a few minutes, but to ensure good air exchange. The ideal time for ventilation is the morning and evening hours, when the carbon dioxide content in the air is not yet high. In addition, in the winter, you can use ventilation for a few minutes several times a day.

  1. Avoid using harmful chemicals

Many household chemicals, such as cleaning products, paints or aerosols, can release toxic substances into the air that worsen air quality. Instead of using aggressive chemicals, you should pay attention to natural cleaning products or choose products that have an environmental safety mark. It is also worth making sure that the room is well ventilated after using such products.

  1. Take care of indoor plants

Indoor plants are not only an aesthetic element of the interior, but also natural air filters. Some plants, such as sansevieria, spathiphyllum or chlorophytum, are able to absorb toxins from the air, improving its quality. Adding a few such plants to your interior can significantly reduce the level of pollution. However, it should be remembered that excessive watering can lead to the development of mold, so it is necessary to maintain the correct humidity level.

  1. Control the humidity level

Excessive humidity in the room can contribute to the development of fungus, mold and allergens that worsen the air quality. In order to prevent this, it is necessary to maintain the optimal humidity level, which is 40-60%. In case of high humidity, it is worth using dehumidifiers or providing additional ventilation. It is also useful to monitor the humidity level in bathrooms and kitchens, where condensation often forms.

  1. Avoid smoking indoors

Indoor smoking is one of the biggest threats to air quality. Cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 harmful chemicals, many of which are carcinogenic. Therefore, if there are smokers in the house, it is best to limit smoking outdoors to reduce indoor air pollution. Given all the negative health effects, it is also worth considering stopping smoking indoors in general.

Improving indoor air quality does not require much effort, but it does require some attention and regular implementation of simple measures. Purifying the air with air purifiers, proper ventilation, reducing chemical pollution and caring for plants can create a healthy and comfortable environment. By providing the right conditions to maintain clean air, you can significantly improve your well-being and quality of life.
