This can be a consequence of genetics, as well as certain diseases, such as hypothyroidism, when the thyroid gland produces insufficient hormones. Another serious obstacle to losing weight is stress. Scientists have proven that stress causes the production of the hormone cortisol, which stimulates appetite and can contribute to the accumulation of fat, especially in the abdominal area. When a person feels stressed, the body tends to "store up" energy, which can lead to overeating and weight gain. In addition, stress often disrupts sleep, which also negatively affects the weight loss process. An equally important factor is insufficient sleep. When we do not sleep enough, the level of the hormone leptin, which is responsible for the feeling of satiety, decreases, and the level of ghrelin, which causes hunger, increases. This leads to an increase in appetite and the desire to eat more high-calorie foods. In addition, lack of sleep negatively affects energy levels, which makes physical activity difficult. The third important reason is improper nutrition. Many people believe that low-fat or low-carbohydrate diets are the best way to lose weight, but this is not always the case. The body needs a balanced diet that includes all the necessary macro- and microelements. Instead of giving up entire food groups, you should pay attention to their quality and quantity. Weight problems can arise due to excessive consumption of sweets, fast food or foods with a high glycemic index. Medical factors can also affect the weight loss process. For example, certain medications can cause weight gain. These can be antidepressants, diabetes medications, as well as hormonal drugs. If a person suspects that weight gain may be related to taking medications, they should consult a doctor to adjust the treatment. Finally, an important aspect is the lack of motivation and support from others. For many people, the process of losing weight is not only a physical challenge, but also a psychological one. Lack of support from family or friends, as well as stress related to social expectations or problems at work, can reduce the chances of success. Motivation is an important driver, so it is worth finding ways to support yourself during this difficult period. Thus, there are many factors that can affect the weight loss process. It is important to remember that to achieve success, it is necessary to consider not only nutrition and exercise, but also work on other aspects of health, such as metabolism, stress, sleep, and psychological support.
