Dangerous summer shoes: orthopedist's tips for keeping your feet safe

Summer is a time when we try to enjoy warm weather, outdoor recreation and active walks. However, along with light clothing and open shoes, health problems can also come, including with our feet. Orthopedists warn that the wrong summer shoes can cause injuries and pain in the feet, and in some cases even affect our overall well-being. What shoes are the most dangerous for our feet, and how to choose the right ones, tells an orthopedist.

One of the biggest enemies of foot health in the summer is flat sandals without foot support. They seem comfortable because of their simplicity and openness, but in reality they can cause serious problems. Shoes without proper support do not allow the foot to function properly, which can lead to pain in the heel, toes and even the appearance of flat feet. Orthopedists note that such models increase the risk of developing osteoarthritis, and can also cause muscle spasms and ligaments due to improper load distribution.

Another dangerous option is flat-soled shoes with a thin bottom. Although such shoes may look stylish, they do not provide sufficient cushioning when walking, which can cause pain in the feet and even lead to injuries. In particular, when walking on uneven surfaces, the thin sole does not provide adequate protection from impacts, which negatively affects the joints, especially the knees and back.

High heels, which are also popular in the summer, can be harmful if worn too often. Steps in high heels change the natural posture, which creates additional stress on the spine, hip joints and knees. If such shoes are worn for a long time, there is a risk of developing varicose veins, as well as back and neck pain. Orthopedists advise wearing shoes with a low and stable heel to maintain the health of joints and feet.

Another popular but dangerous summer model is flip-flops. They especially often lead to injuries because they do not fix the foot properly. As a result, a person can stumble or twist his foot. Flip-flops pose an additional risk of injury to the toes and heels, because the feet can slip out of the shoes while walking. This is not only dangerous, but also reduces comfort during long walks.

Orthopedists also pay attention to shoes made of synthetic materials, which can cause sweating and an unpleasant odor. Summer shoes that do not let air through can cause discomfort and even lead to the development of fungal infections. In addition, shoes made of poor-quality materials do not provide proper support for the foot, which again can cause pain in the legs and joints.

To avoid health problems, orthopedists recommend choosing summer shoes with orthopedic properties. These should be models that support the natural curvature of the foot, have a shock-absorbing sole and fix the foot well. Choosing the right shoes significantly reduces the risk of injuries, provides comfort when walking and preserves the health of your feet for many years.

Choosing the right summer shoes is not only a matter of fashion, but also of health. Orthopedists emphasize the importance of choosing comfortable and safe models, because they will help avoid pain and injuries, and will also help maintain your activity in the summer.
