Determination of ovulation at home

Ovulation is the process of releasing a mature egg from the ovary and plays a key role in the female reproductive cycle. Knowing when ovulation occurs can be helpful when planning a pregnancy or monitoring protection. In this article, we will talk about several methods for determining ovulation at home.

1. Calendar method:

The calendar method is based on the regularity of your cycle. First you need to mark the first day of your period (the day your cycle starts) on your calendar. Then you should keep track of the duration of your cycle for several months. Usually the cycle lasts 28-32 days, but it can vary from woman to woman.

To approximate the day of ovulation, subtract 18 days from the shortest cycle and 11 days from the longest cycle. For example, if your shortest cycle is 28 days, then ovulation may occur around the 10th day after the start of the cycle. If your longest cycle is 32 days, then you may ovulate around day 21.

2. Basal temperature:

Basal body temperature is the body temperature at rest. During ovulation, it rises slightly due to the influence of hormones. To measure your basal body temperature, you will need a special thermometer. Take your temperature every morning when you wake up, before you get out of bed. Record results and build a graph. An increase in temperature of 0.3-0.6 degrees Celsius may indicate ovulation.

3. Ovulation tests:

Ovulation tests, also known as LH (luteinizing hormone) tests, can help determine when you are ovulating. LH levels in the body rise before ovulation. Tests can be purchased at a pharmacy. Their use is similar to pregnancy tests. A positive result indicates the approach of ovulation.

4. Symptoms of ovulation:

Many women may experience physiological symptoms before ovulation, such as pain in the lower abdomen, breast tenderness, or changes in discharge.

Determining ovulation at home can be a useful tool for women planning a pregnancy or monitoring their reproductive health. However, it is worth remembering that home methods may be less accurate than medical methods. If you have serious questions or illnesses related to reproductive health, it is important to see a doctor for more accurate diagnosis and advice.
