The Effects of Shrimp on Women's Health

Scientists from several international centers conducted a large-scale study to determine the effects of shrimp on women's health, particularly during the period approaching menopause. More than 35,000 women, none of whom had previously been diagnosed with breast cancer, participated in the experiment. The study aimed to investigate whether regular consumption of shrimp and shrimp-based supplements could have a protective effect on the body.

The participants were followed for six years. Their diet, lifestyle, physical activity, and use of dietary supplements were recorded. Some women included shrimp-based supplements in their diets, while others did not. This allowed the scientists to assess the impact of shrimp on long-term health.

The results showed that women who took shrimp extracts had a one-third lower risk of developing breast cancer compared to those who did not use such supplements. The study found that 880 women who did not take shrimp supplements were diagnosed with the disease, while those who regularly consumed shrimp extract had significantly lower rates.

Experts attribute this effect to the presence of unique bioactive compounds in shrimp, which have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties. They can protect cells from damage, strengthen the immune system, and prevent pathological changes that contribute to tumor development. These compounds are especially valuable for women whose hormonal systems begin to change during perimenopause.

Furthermore, the researchers note that shrimp is a source of high-quality protein, iodine, B vitamins, and omega-3 fatty acids. All these components not only support cardiovascular health but also help normalize metabolism and hormonal balance, which indirectly reduces the risk of hormone-related diseases, including breast cancer.

Thus, including shrimp and shrimp-based products in the diet of women, especially those approaching menopause, may be a preventative measure to maintain health. Experts emphasize that this does not guarantee complete protection from the disease, but rather a significant risk reduction when combined with proper nutrition, physical activity, and regular medical checkups.
