A new drug helps you lose weight safely

Scientists from the University of Glasgow have developed a drug that can significantly reduce weight in a short period of time. Liraglutide, a substance similar in structure to natural gut hormones, helps people control their appetite and feel full, resulting in less food intake. Essentially, the drug "tricks" the brain, allowing you to reduce your daily food intake by approximately 20% without feeling hungry.

In clinical trials, the drug was tested on over 500 obese participants. Some received daily liraglutide injections, while others used traditional weight loss methods, including placebo pills and orlistat. The results showed that women and men using liraglutide lost an average of almost 10 kilograms over six months, twice the weight loss of participants taking alternative methods.

In addition to weight loss, liraglutide has a positive effect on the cardiovascular system. The drug helps increase HDL cholesterol levels, lowers blood pressure, and may prevent the development of diabetes, making it a comprehensive health promotion tool.

Researchers also note a psychological effect: patients experience improved mood and overall well-being. This is especially important, as maintaining motivation and a positive outlook plays a key role in long-term weight management.

Liraglutide is available as a pen-based injection, making it easy to use at home. With continued treatment for a year, the results are maintained, whereas other medications often lead to weight regain after treatment ends.

The only limitation to widespread use may be cost. A year's course of treatment costs approximately £1,000, but experts believe that the drug's high efficacy and safety make it a popular choice for weight loss.
