Healthy Plate: How to Properly Form Your Daily Diet

Healthy eating starts with the right composition of your plate. Eating habits directly affect your well-being, energy levels, and risk of developing chronic diseases. To improve your diet, you don't have to completely change your lifestyle - you should start by learning to fill your plate in a balanced way.

The main rule is variety. Products should contain a sufficient amount of vitamins, minerals, proteins, carbohydrates, and fats. Scientists from the Harvard School of Public Health have proposed a simple visual model - "Healthy Eating Plate", which helps everyone easily navigate in creating balanced meals.

Half of the plate should be vegetables and fruits. Their diversity is the key to obtaining a wide range of nutrients. It is better to avoid potatoes, especially fried ones - they increase blood sugar levels. Choose spinach, broccoli, tomatoes, carrots, apples, berries, etc.

A quarter of your plate should be whole grains: brown rice, whole grain bread, quinoa, bulgur, oats. They keep you feeling full longer and stabilize your blood sugar levels. Avoid white bread, white rice, and refined grains—they are less nutritious and quickly make you hungry.

Another quarter should be filled with protein. Good sources include legumes, nuts, seeds, fish, chicken, and eggs. Limit your intake of red meat, and avoid processed meats (sausages, hot dogs) completely.

Don’t forget about healthy fats. Vegetable oils (olive, sunflower, and rapeseed) are better sources of fat than animal fats. Avoid trans fats, which are found in fast food, store-bought pastries, and some margarines.

Your choice of drinks is also important. Water is your best bet. Limit your intake of sugary drinks, juices with added sugar, and high-fat milk. Unsweetened coffee and tea are acceptable.

Creating a healthy plate is a simple but effective step towards better health and prevention of many diseases. It is not a diet, but a lifestyle that should be followed every day.
