However, many habits that we do not even notice can have a serious impact on hormonal balance. In this material, we will consider the most common of them and tips on how to avoid them.

One of the biggest problems is chronic stress. When the body is under constant stress, it produces a large amount of cortisol - the stress hormone. High levels of cortisol can lead to insomnia, digestive problems, increased blood pressure and disruption of other hormones, such as insulin and thyroid hormones. This is not only harmful to physical health, but also negatively affects the psycho-emotional state. A prolonged increase in cortisol levels can also lead to chronic diseases, in particular, the development of type 2 diabetes.

The second common habit that has an impact on hormones is improper nutrition. A diet high in refined carbohydrates, sweets, and processed foods can cause insulin resistance. It disrupts the function of insulin, which has a major impact on other hormone levels in the body. Not getting enough omega-3 fatty acids and vitamins like D and B12 can also negatively affect your hormones. All of these factors can cause menstrual irregularities, skin problems, and other hormonal imbalances.

Another important habit that alters your hormone levels is insufficient sleep. Poor or short sleep can significantly affect hormones, including leptin and ghrelin, which are responsible for feelings of hunger and satiety. Chronic sleep deprivation also contributes to increased cortisol levels, which in turn leads to fat storage, especially in the abdominal area. In addition, sleep disruption affects the production of growth hormones, which can interfere with the body’s ability to repair itself and the normal functioning of the immune system.

Physical activity is a habit that can either improve or disrupt hormonal balance, depending on its intensity. Moderate physical activity promotes the production of endorphins, improves metabolism and stabilizes stress hormone levels. However, excessive physical activity without sufficient rest can lead to increased cortisol levels, which negatively affects other hormones and can slow down metabolism. Stay active, but do not forget about rest and recovery.

Smoking and alcohol abuse can also disrupt hormonal balance. Alcohol, in particular, affects testosterone and estrogen levels, which can cause menstrual irregularities in women and decreased libido in men. Smoking reduces progesterone levels, which are important for reproductive function, and increases the risk of developing thyroid diseases, which directly affect hormonal balance.

An important factor affecting hormones is the use of certain cosmetics. Products containing phthalates and parabens can affect the endocrine system by mimicking the effects of estrogen. This can lead to menstrual cycle disorders in women, reduced sperm count in men, and even an increased risk of cancer. Therefore, it is worth paying attention to the composition of cosmetics and choosing natural alternatives.

To maintain hormonal balance, it is important to be attentive to your own habits and correct them in time. Reducing stress, eating healthy, getting enough sleep, moderate exercise, and quitting bad habits are the main steps to normalizing your hormonal background. Staying healthy starts with choosing healthy habits in your everyday life.
