Alcohol May Increase Cancer Risk

American researchers have established a link between regular alcohol consumption and an increased risk of breast cancer in women. The findings were based on a large-scale data analysis involving hundreds of thousands of participants of varying ages and lifestyles.

As part of the study, the researchers examined the medical records of more than 180,000 women. This volume of information allowed the scientists to obtain the most accurate results and confirm that even moderate alcohol consumption can impact long-term health.

The analysis showed that women who drink one or two glasses of alcohol per day face an increased risk of developing breast cancer. As the amount of alcohol consumed increases, the risk of developing the disease increases even more, indicating a direct relationship between dose and effects.

The researchers emphasized that the type of alcoholic beverage does not play a decisive role. Beer, wine, and spirits had similar effects on the body, and the risk remained regardless of preference. This suggests that the key factor is ethyl alcohol itself. Scientists paid particular attention to hormonal mechanisms. In a significant proportion of women diagnosed with breast cancer, tumors respond to estrogen and progesterone. Alcohol can interfere with the metabolism of these hormones, creating favorable conditions for tumor development.

Experts believe that these findings are not a cause for panic, but they do call for a mindful approach to lifestyle habits. Women are advised to consider their individual risk factors and, if necessary, consult with doctors about lifestyle adjustments.

Scientists also note that small doses of alcohol are sometimes associated with cardiovascular benefits. Nevertheless, when choosing between potential benefits and the possible risk of developing serious diseases, it is important to maintain a balance and make informed decisions.
