Dandelion Jam for Respiratory Health


 

Dandelion flowers have long been prized not only for their beauty but also for their medicinal properties. One interesting way to use them is to make jam, which can help prevent respiratory conditions such as asthma and bronchitis. In addition to their pleasant taste, this jam contains beneficial substances that help strengthen the immune system and ease breathing.

The best time to pick dandelions is on a sunny day, around midday, when the nectar concentration in the flowers is at its highest. About two hundred flower heads are typically used to make the jam. After picking, they are thoroughly washed and placed in an enamel bowl. To enhance the aroma and health benefits, grated lemon and a few cherry leaves are added to the flowers—this gives the jam a soft, fruity flavor and an additional vitamin boost.

The next step is to prepare the decoction. Pour half a liter of boiling water over the flowers and simmer over low heat for about ten minutes, covered. After this, the liquid is steeped for 24 hours to extract the maximum amount of nutrients. The infusion is then strained, and the remaining flowers are carefully pressed out.

For sweetness and preservation, about 750 grams of sugar is added to the hot infusion and the mixture is simmered for about half an hour. The result is a thick, aromatic jam with a honey-like flavor that is easy to store and can be used as a natural healing product.

Regular consumption of this jam helps improve respiratory health, eases breathing in mild cases of asthma and bronchitis, and strengthens the overall immune system. The natural substances contained in dandelion flowers have a mild anti-inflammatory effect, making the jam a useful addition to the diet during seasonal illnesses.

Furthermore, the jam can be used as a natural source of vitamins in the spring and summer, when the body especially needs support after the winter period. It is suitable for both children and adults, combining a pleasant taste with health benefits. Due to the simplicity of preparation and the availability of ingredients, this remedy is easy to include in your daily diet.
