How to Properly Clean a Shaggy Carpet

Known for its long, soft pile, shaggy carpet creates a cozy and luxurious feel in your home, but it requires special care. Its fluffy texture easily attracts dust, hair, and small debris, so regular and proper cleaning helps maintain its appearance and prolongs its lifespan. Caring for this type of carpet begins with regular vacuuming. In addition to vacuuming, the carpet requires periodic shaking or beating. If its size allows, you can take the carpet outside, turn it over, and gently tap the back of the carpet to remove accumulated dust. This method helps remove any dust that the vacuum doesn't reach. In winter, you can use snow: lay the carpet pile-side down on clean snow and press it lightly; the snow draws out dirt and neutralizes odors.

Stains on shaggy carpet should be removed immediately. For fresh stains, it's best to use absorbent materials such as paper towels or a clean cloth, gently blotting the stain without rubbing. For light stains, a mild detergent solution is suitable: apply a small amount of liquid to a sponge, lather it, and gently blot the area. Excess moisture should be immediately wiped away with a dry cloth. Heavy stains require the use of specialized carpet shampoos or professional foams. Apply them sparingly, as shaggy carpet does not tolerate excess water well and is difficult to dry. After cleaning, allow the carpet to dry completely naturally, away from direct heat, to prevent the pile from becoming distorted.

A deep cleaning is recommended several times a year. You can use dry powder cleaners that are spread over the surface, absorbing dirt, and then vacuumed away. This method is safe for long pile carpets and doesn't require a long drying time. Another option is professional dry cleaning, especially if the carpet is large, expensive, or made of delicate materials.
